When mobile began to dominate over desktop, LinkedIn created an all-around app to help users stay involved and engaged with their connections but, in terms of usability, it was rudimentary. Since then it has updated everything from functionality to interface layout to create something which is better described as a ‘social platform’ rather than just a business app. From the homepage you can tap through to your profile, connections, groups and shortcuts.
LinkedIn Pulse works as a stand-alone news feed app, focusing solely on the status updates and news alerts of your connections and other influential, interesting users. You’re able to browse thousands of sources for news and content and, have the opportunity to customise your feeds and import your reader rich site summary (RSS) feeds. As well as these features, Pulse loads the stories you read so they are available offline. On the whole, Pulse is a great app for someone who reads trending articles heavily, and is a social-savvy LinkedIn user.
3. Sales Navigator
LinkedIn Sales Navigator is a much more business-focused app, with its audience primarily being sales professionals on the go. The app is an extension for existing LinkedIn Sales Navigator account holders, and means you’re able to check profiles for new potential leads, get ahead of key changes on target accounts and receive sales notifications. With a very similar interface and level of usability as the other LinkedIn apps, this app is perfect for any sales-focused LinkedIn user.
Connected is arguably the most social of LinkedIn apps. Its primary focus is to keep your connections strong and valuable. The app will notify you on your connections job changes, birthdays and work anniversaries, giving you the option to reach out and start a conversation. The app has recently been updated
to improve stability and usability, and overall a great tool for relationship building and pre-meeting information.
5. Job Search
Ideal for LinkedIn users looking for new opportunities, Job Search puts the career-finding usability into a separate app. As well as giving you the option to look for specific vacancies with search optimisation, it will also send you notifications when new jobs are posted and can recommend you jobs based on your saved searches and LinkedIn profile.
The Recruiter app is exclusive to users with a pre-existing LinkedIn recruiting account. Project folders, notes and team activity notes make this app a useful method for sourcing and recruiting potential candidates. Real time alerts and search functions add to the recruiter’s arsenal and, its similar user interface makes it easy to use.
Slideshare is one of the biggest and most commonly used presentation platforms, with 60 million visitors a month. With the LinkedIn partnership app, you are able to access more than 12 million presentations with the ability to save, and view offline, at a later date. You can browse through both professional and nonprofessional decks, with a wide range of everything from ‘howto’s, to data reports, and questions and answers.
